Mountain Lion - “Powerful, Graceful, Agile & Adaptable”
MINE PROTECTED ARMORED PERSONNEL CARRIER
The MOUNTAIN LION is a versatile armored utility vehicle able to fulfill multiple roles, on the battlefield which demand high payload while ensuring crew survivability and enhancing combat forces' mobility and expeditionary capabilities. This vehicle is also ideally suited for employment in peacekeeping and peace enforcement operations.
MOUNTAIN LION’s unique design incorporates a single piece (monocoque) armoured hull that ensures maximum protection from blast threats and offers superb ballistic protection against conventional ammunition and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Protection levels can be increased in the field through crew-installable panels. MOUNTAIN LION can carry a crew of up to 8 soldiers complete with their kit and special equipment for at least a 48 hour combat mission.
Survivability for both the crew and vehicle has been attained through applied systems engineering techniques and is founded in the knowledge base developed through feedback and lessons learned from customers utilizing our unrivalled Husky Vehicle Mounted Mine Detector which has been successfully deployed in operations in Africa, the Middle East, Balkans and Asia as well as the successful arduous and comprehensive testing conducted in South Africa and at the US Army’s Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona.
Tactical mobility and crew comfort (endurance) during missions is achieved through the combination of a powerful 221kW/1012Nm engine, 6 speed automatic transmission, suitably matched transfer transmission and planetary rigid axles, which can be replaced with an independent suspension system. MOUNTAIN LION is equipped with the unique Four Wheel Steer (4WS) system that has been combat proven on the Husky VMMD which dramatically reduces the turning circle thereby enhancing the MOUNTAIN LION’s mobility in close terrain and urban areas. The vehicle is fitted with a 34 200 BTU air-conditioner providing 10 kW of cooling, and a 570 amp alternator which supplies ample power to run a wide range of communication, surveillance and other electronic equipment. A “drop in” solution can be utilized to increase power output up to more than 1000 amps if required.
Strategic mobility is ensured by the fact that a MOUNTAIN LION vehicle can be transported in a C130 aircraft.
Use of the maximum number of commercial components in the MOUNTAIN LION enhances the ease with which the vehicle can be maintained and supported logistically.
The MOUNTAIN LION’s ample capacity allows it to fulfill a wide range of command and control as well as route clearance and combat support roles, due to easy access and egress through side and rear doors and roof hatches, while armoured windows afford excellent all round visibility.
A protected Platt MR800 electrically driven armor protected ring mount which can carry a main weapon of the customer’s choice is fitted to the MOUNTAIN LION. It incorporates a robust ring bearing assembly which has been proven in the harshest environments. The soft-mount has four springs which buffer the recoil of the weapon, reducing vibration and increasing accuracy.
A digi-rack also allows for easy installation and storage of communication and other add-on electronic equipment required.
